It's a big, beautiful, noisy world out there. Yet many children and adults cannot express themselves clearly or hear well because of disorders with their speech, language or hearing.

For more than four decades, The Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center, across from Towers Mall on Colonial Avenue, has been helping people of all ages develop their communication skills so they can better relate to the world around them.

Our speech-language professionals and hearing professionals do evaluations that include a case history, an examination of speech mechanisms, an assessment of speech and language skills and hearing testing.

Our up-to-date training and state-of-the-art equipment are here to help any person with one or more of these problems:

impaired hearing

hearing aid needs

poor articulation

delayed language

accent modification

stuttering

voice disorders

aphasia

speech problems after stroke/brain injury

cleft palate related speech/language difficulties

cerebral palsied speech

autism

loss of speech after a laryngectomy and difficulty with language processing

SO MUCH TO SAY!

SO MUCH TO HEAR!

WE'RE HERE FOR YOU!

SO MUCH CAN BE DONE

Emotional, educational and social difficulties are often created for children and adults who have speech, hearing or language disorders.

Counseling that includes the family helps everyone better understand treatment methods and objectives.

Speech and language therapy, set in the bright new wing of the Center, is based on individual needs.

More that 15 million Americans suffer impairment or loss of hearing. Our goal is to help our clients with hearing impairments make the most of their remaining hearing.

For persons without a hearing problem, we emphasize protecting and preserving good hearing.

For persons needing hearing aids, we offer a large variety of hearing aids, and we are here when you need adjustments, parts and fittings.

The Center is the only speech and hearing facility in the Roanoke Valley which maintains a policy that no one is denied service because of inability to pay. It is also the only facility for speech and hearing in the Valley that is accredited by the National Association of Speech and Hearing Centers

The Center also offers  consultation on hearing protection and on-site industrial and school hearing tests with the Center's mobile unit.

The Center is a not-for-profit community service organization approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization; contributions to the Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center are deductible for income tax purposes. You can make contributions directly or through United Way.

IMPROVING THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE

Established in 1959 by the Cosmopolitan Club of Roanoke, we are supported by fees for service, grants, donations and the United Way.
